Ide Hill is a scattered village, with the green at its centre on which the Victorian church of St. Mary’s stands. It is said to be the highest in Kent. There are many woodland walks, some of them through National Trust land. The gardens of Emmetts House (NT) are famous for their bluebells in spring, and their stunning views all the year round. Refreshments are available. There is a post office and the Cock pub on the green, and Bough Beech Nature Reserve, with its oast house Information Centre, lies just below the village on Bough Beech Reservoir. The Women’s Institute holds a market on Wednesday mornings between 11am and noon, from mid-March to mid-December. Its home-made produce, vegetables, plants and handicrafts are second-to-none. |
