Fordcombe is surrounded by a rolling patchwork of farmland and woods. The centre is a Conservation Area within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
It includes an attractive village green, around which are mostly 19th century houses and cottages in regional style of brick and sandstone.
Over looking the green is the Chafford Arms, recognized for its food and gardens. It is by the 19th century architect George Devey, as is the lych gate at the Church of St Peter. Built to be the family chapel of Lord Hardinge (Governor General of India), since 1870 it has been Fordcombe’s parish church.
Fordcombe Fete and Flower Show takes place in early August. |
