Blackham is hidden beside the A264, on which can be found the Sussex Oak Inn. It is probable that the field behind the pub was the site for Sutton’s famous ’prize fighters’ to show off their skills, possibly against opponents from London.
The narrow country lane adjacent to the inn leads to a 9-hole golf course at Villa Farm, and from the village there is a network of footpaths into the beautiful surrounding countryside.
All Saints Church is a delightful small stone building and opposite is the village hall, in which a village market is held on the first Saturday of each month, from 10am to 1.30pm. Willetts Farm, famous for its delicious ice cream, is found here and its ice cream is on sale at the market along with other local produce, crafts, gifts and refreshments, in an authentic village atmosphere. |
