There’s more to the Eden Valley than just walking – the fantastic countryside offers a remarkable variety of outdoor
pursuits. Whether you are looking for energetic pastimes such as cycling, horse-riding and sailing, or perhaps more
laid-back pursuits like bird-watching or fishing, the Eden Valley has it all.
Please see below for further details of the activities available. Where possible, local pubs and shops have been
highlighted – why not make a day of it with a quick drink beforehand or a meal afterwards?

The relatively flat landscape of the Eden Valley makes it ideal for cycling. The roads and lanes of the area are generally quiet and can provide an excellent day’s cycling, although care should be taken on busier stretches.

The Tonbridge to Penshurst cycle route offers an excellent, almost traffic-free ride from the heart of Tonbridge alongside the River Medway, out into the countryside as far as the glorious buildings of Penshurst Place.

Cycle hire is not available within the Eden Valley itself, but Cycle-Ops in Tonbridge hires cycles for day use or longer. (Click for website).

The Eden Valley is home to several golf courses, all of them set within picturesque countryside.
All abilities are catered for with both 9 and 18 hole courses with a variety of characteristics, including the Hever Castle Golf Club, which boasts one of the longest holes in Europe, and the Kent & Surrey Golf & Country Club in Edenbridge.
Many are open to visitors as well as members.
Families are welcome at the pay and play course at Villa Golf in Blackham.

Bough Beech Reservoir is a 250 acre reservoir nestling in the hillside between Edenbridge and Sevenoaks, and is a great venue for sailing. The wind is unobstructed from the south of the reservoir and the elevated position provides good winds from the prevailing south west.

The Eden Valley has a large range of local wildlife that can be seen whilst out and about.
Taking one of the local walks is an excellent way to get close to nature; you can often see deer, small mammals and a wide variety of
birds including kingfishers. More information can be found in the short walks section and longer walks section.
Kent Wildlife Trust runs the visitor centre at Bough Beech in a converted 19th century oast house adjacent to the reservoir and nature reserve.
