Hever Castle, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, is a 13th century double-moated castle steeped in history and set in magnificent grounds. The gardens have been voted the most romantic garden in the south east of England by readers of Gardeners’ World magazine. It boasts four acres of formal gardens, including a magnificent Pompeiian wall in the Italian gardens, celebrated Rose and Tudor gardens, a yew maze and boating lake.

This year Monty Don, renowned writer and BBC television presenter, opened the Japanese Tea House Folly which stands on the edge of the 38-acre lake. The re-creation of the Tea House is principally about recapturing the idea and purpose of the original Edwardian intent rather than trying to emulate an authentic tea house. It is bigger than the original folly to accommodate a veranda that the public can walk around and sit under to view the surroundings away from the busier parts of the castle and grounds. Its interior will remain closed to the public but is available to hire for private events and special occasions accommodating up to 6 people comfortably. The striking red colour adds to its Japanese appearance, as do the four gold dragons sitting proudly on each corner of the roof.
