Longer Walks
The Eden Valley offers some fantastic opportunities for long distance walking, whether you are looking for a full-day walk, or even longer and staying overnight along the way. This section includes walks over 6 miles (4 hrs plus) – look below to find a walk that suits you.
Although these walks are more challenging, in general the terrain is good, although more care is needed after heavy rain. Wear comfortable sturdy footwear, enjoy a safe and pleasant walk, and always follow the Country Code. (Click here for more information).
Where possible, local pubs and shops have been highlighted. Why not break your walk with a lunch or quick drink, or stay for a meal afterwards?

Walk 6: Edenbridge Boundary Walk North
This walk follows the northern boundary of the Parish of Edenbridge. Starting and ending in the centre of town, this walk follows the River Eden before turning north through fields and woodland, before returning south to the river. Can be combined with Walk 7 for a longer route.

Walk 7: Edenbridge Boundary Walk South
This walk follows the southern boundary of the Parish of Edenbridge. Starting and ending in the centre of town, this walk follows the River Eden before turning south through fields and woodland, through the hamlet of Marsh Green before returning north to the river. Can be combined with Walk 6 for a longer route.

Walk 8: Edenbridge – Haxted – Cernes – Edenbridge
Starting in the centre of Edenbridge with its shops, pubs, a variety of places in which to eat, historic buildings and the convenient Edenbridge Town station, this walk loops west to Cernes Farm, before returning back tot Edenbridge along the first stage of the Eden Valley Walk. Can be combined with walks 9 &10 to cover the route of the Eden Valley Walk.

Walk 9: Edenbridge – Hever – Chiddingstone
This linear walk continues the route of the Eden Valley Walk from Edenbridge, passing through fields and along the banks of the river to the small village of Hever. Passing close to St Peters church and the grounds of Hever Castle, the walk then continues onto the village of Chiddingstone, with its eclectic castle and historic buildings. Can be combined with walks 8 &10 to cover the route of the Eden Valley Walk

Walk 10: Chiddingstone – Penshurst – Leigh
This linear walk continues the route of the Eden Valley walk from the pretty village of Chiddingstone, along the meandering route of the River Eden to Penshurst. At historic Penshurst Place the route swings north through fields taking you as far as Leigh, with its pretty village green and rail station. Can be combined with walks 8 & 9 to cover the route of the Eden Valley Walk.

Chiddingstone – Chiddingstone Causeway
This is a circular walk linking Chiddingstone, Penshurst, Charcott and Chiddingstone Causeway (Penshurst Station). The walk takes you through fields and woodlands, close to Penshurst Place and the villages of Charcott and Chiddingstone.

Eden Valley Walk
A linear route along the valleys of the River Eden and the River Medway.
The walk, between Edenbridge and Tonbridge, passes through parkland, woodland and open fields in the heart of the Eden Valley. The route is
also rich in historical architecture, running close to Hever Castle and Penshurst Place.

The Greensand Way
A linear route between Haslemere in the south western corner of Surrey and Hamstreet in Kent, passing through Toys Hill on the northern rim of the Eden Valley.
The Greensand Way links some of Kent's most historic villages, as well as featuring spectacular scenic countryside that seems miles from anywhere.
The path can be walked as a long distance route in approximately a week, or can be enjoyed in shorter sections

The Vanguard Way
A unique, long-distance walking trail in south east England. The trail runs from Croydon through the western end of the Eden Valley, Crockham Hill, Haxted and Marsh Green, on its way to Seaford on the coast.
The path can be walked as a long distance route in approximately five days, or can be enjoyed in shorter sections.

Sussex Border Path
The Sussex Border Path follows the inland borders of the county from Thorney Island in West Sussex to Rye in East Sussex, passing through unspoilt countryside. The route passes through the southernmost edge of the Eden Valley past Cowden and Blackham. It can be walked in approx 8-9 days but can also be split into day hikes.

Wealdway
A long-distance linear route across the Weald of Kent and Sussex, this route provides breathtaking views and a real slice of the best of the Kent and Sussex countryside. Starting in Gravesend and finishing in Eastbourne, the route passes through Fordcombe on the south eastern edge of the Eden Valley. It can easily be split into manageable sections.
